The advantages of a congestion tax are great: reduction of pollution, reduction of road rage, lower Greenhouse gas emissions, improvements in public transport and more space in the city as fewer car parks are required.
Dear Editor

A congestion tax for cars travelling into the city of Hobart is quite a good idea. Anything which will discourage people from using polluting and other problem causing technologies is good and anything to encourage people to consider other options is great.

The argument is often put that public transport in Hobart is no good, but surely this is a chicken or the egg argument. If more people are using public transport and demanding improvements, then surely the government has to recognise this, rather than improving it to encourage people to use it.

The advantages of a congestion tax are great: reduction of pollution, reduction of road rage, lower Greenhouse gas emissions, improvements in public transport and more space in the city as fewer car parks are required.

Surely people should consider all advantages before dismissing this option.
