A Hobart mum opened the front door on Tuesday night to the police.

– Is your son home?

– No.

– I have a summons for him.

– What for?

The charge, read out, was serious but old news.

– He’s not here because he’s in jail.

She then asked if the other two summonses he held were for X and Y.

– Well, yes ….

– They’ve both been charged too, found guilty, jailed and one of them’s done his time and is out. Now, was there anything else?

– No.

Just an embarrassed cop and a stunned mum who is still wondering how on earth this could have happened.
