Geoffrey Cousins Leighton Holdings Ltd chief executive Wal King’s comments on Gunns Ltd’s proposed Tasmanian pulp mill. Thursday 8th November
“The comments today from Wal King further serve to highlight that the market has not been fully informed by Gunns Ltd regarding the details of the construction of the proposed pulp mill in northern Tasmania.
“The comments conflict with what has been said publicly by John Gay from Gunns, and the ASX should demand an explanation immediately along with an investigation by ASIC.”

CONSTRUCTION giant Leighton Holdings, whose subsidiaries are contracted to build the Gunns Tasmanian pulp mill, says the project may never be built. Leighton Holdings chief executive Wal King yesterday played down the prospect of construction beginning soon and suggested it might not eventuate. “I believe there are many more hurdles and there’s a lot of water to go under the bridge until that (mill) gets built,” he told shareholders at the company’s annual general meeting in Sydney. “Just watch this space, because there’s lots and lots of time to go by before it’s built, if it is ever built.”
