There is no mystery as to why the Meander Valley Council is rushing their Protection of Agricultural Land policy through before the next election.
The MVC currently has at least four councillors with financial or organisational ties to the plantation industry the policy is designed to support at the expense of farmers and the general community.
Contrary to both ethics and the Local Government Act, all of these councillors vote for the industry at every turn, and all have been conspicuous in their failure to provide any good explanation for their support.
The one cheering aspect of the MVC direction is that the plantations will eventually cut off enough revenue that the council will run out of revenue and be forced to amalgamate.
