The Bridge Sitters MR Wednesday 17th October 2007. Bridge Sitters not Fence Sitters.

WE ARE, this morning, sitting on the Batman Bridge the icon of OUR valley.

An icon and valley that is under threat because of greed and a crumbling democracy.

The People of Tasmania, particularly local communities within the Tamar valley have not been listened too.

We are three people who have grown up in this amazing valley. We love our home and want our kids to have the same privilege.

We are here to highlight what our state will lose if this greedy, rushed, dirty pulp mill is built in Tasmania.

All three of us work in the tourism industry and are NOT members of any Anti Pulp Mill group or political party.

We are not here for fun; it is something that we had to do for our kids and the future of Tasmania.

We will be based high up on the bridge for a number of days.

Symbolically and peacefully we will highlight our frustration, the serious issues concerning our families and the community, and promote our CLEAN GREEN STATE without a pulp mill.

We call on the people of Tasmania and beyond to take a stand for democracy now, before it is too late.
