GUNNS chief executive John Gay predicts the Federal Government will approve its giant Tasmanian pulp mill within four weeks, creating a potentially fatal backlash for Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull in his marginal Sydney electorate. … His prediction came as a new poll in Mr Turnbull’s Sydney seat of Wentworth revealed almost 99per cent of respondents were opposed to the pulp mill in northern Tasmania’s Tamar Valley. (first reported on TT: Here) The online poll was conducted by The Wentworth Courier newspaper – owned by News Limited, publisher of The Australian – and received 776 responses. Asked “should the pulp mill proceed in the Tamar Valley?”, 98.7 per cent said no. Greens leader Bob Brown yesterday predicted Mr Turnbull would lose his seat if he were to approve the mill. Businessman Geoffrey Cousins has targeted Mr Turnbull and his Labor counterpart, environment spokesman Peter Garrett, in their Sydney electorates in an effort to block the project.
