Tasmanians living in the state’s north west are set to benefit from access to critical heart care services, with Charles Clinic today making a permanent commitment to the region.
The Head of Charles Clinic Heart Care, Dr Geoffrey Evans, said after a lengthy process of trying to connect to a high-speed broadband network, he was relieved the issue had finally been resolved.
“Charles Clinic is delighted to announce that local IT provider Tas Communications has presented us with the long-term solution we need to service our patients in the north west,” Dr Evans said.
“Testing over the last two weeks has been positive and the 10 megabits-per-second upload speed we need to deliver our vital service has been achieved.
“As a result, Charles Clinic can now commit to a permanent service in the north west and discussions are underway with the North West Private Hospital to invest in a new facility.
“The north-west coast has one of the nation’s highest rates of cardiovascular disease, so the thought of being forced to close our doors in Burnie was not something I was willing to accept.”
Dr Evans said he was humbled by the overwhelming level of support he’d received from the general community and the media to help find a much-needed solution to enable the service to continue and expand in the area.
