Dr. Eduardo Jaramillo will be visiting Tasmania between December 16 & 22 2006. He has accepted an invitation from TAP to visit Tasmania to present his findings of the various research programs he has undertaken in Chile’s Rio de Cruces Santuario de la Naturaleza wetlands sanctuary near Valdivia. He will also provide details on the restoration plans currently being developed for the sanctuary. This is a timely visit given that it coincides with the current deliberations going on in Tasmania regarding the pulp mill that is being proposed for the Tamar, a region which bears some uncanny similarities with the Chilean situation and Valdivia’s recently commissioned pulp mill. Dr. Jaramillo has direct experience with the CELCO company’s pulp mill, its environmental impacts upon the region and the social impacts it has already had upon people living in and near Valdivia.
