Although the proponents has been supported by our government and our taxes to promote and support their project to the community we have had no such help. How is this a valid community consultative process?

My submission.

I am greatly saddened in having to address this issue.

It seems to me madness to be even having to contemplate this pulp mill proposal.

Tasmania is an oasis in this unsafe and troubled world it offers so much,

Its pristine beauty,

Clean green cleaver image,

Fine foods and wine.

Artists and crafts people

Boat builders.

Marketed in a environmentally sustainable way we and our island would prosper.

This is not a community consultation process when the proponents produces a 7000 page document of which we, the community have eight weeks to try and read, absorb and comment on. I think that this alone cuts many people out.

How does the general public respond?

Although the proponents has been supported by our government and our taxes to promote and support their project to the community we have had no such help.

How is this a valid community consultative process?

I am there fore left to give an overview of my objection to this pulp mill proposal because I cannot wade through and indeed understand much of this huge document.

I oppose this proposed mill because:

It takes 20 years of unique Tasmanian native forests. This means loss of habitat for native animals, 1080 poisoning, eco systems gone never to regenerate and replaced with water guzzling plantations, many of which are in upper catchments.

The essence of Tasmania and her tourism gone.

I oppose this mill because:

In this time of global warming this proposed pulp mill will take and misuse tasmania’s valuable water resource {, 70 million lts per day} way off into my children’s and there children’s future.

I oppose this proposed pulp mill because:

In this valley, which has one of Australians worst air pollution problems,

It will pump out particulate pollutants that will add to the already documented eight deaths per year, directly attributive to this problem, they are the deaths, the top of the iceberg, and then there are all those people and children struggling with lung diseases. Not mentioned.

I oppose this proposed pulp mill because:

It will pump toxins and contaminants into Bass Strait every day of the year for up to 50 years.

Hundreds of tonnes of waste, solids resin acids, organochlorins including dioxins and furans.

Please, I live here at beautiful Bell Buoy beach,

Just a kilometre from the proposed outfall pipe.

I watch many windsurfers when the north westerly’s blow right out there ,where the pipe will discharge,

I swim here,

I fish here,

This is my home and I hope a home for many generations to come, celebrating this clean green healthy environment.
