The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to delivering real skills for real jobs to grow the economy and create jobs for Tasmanians.
I’m pleased to announce today the Government is investing $1.2 million through a new training program to upskill 1,310 Tasmanians in our seasonal industries, including food, tourism and hospitality, to ensure they’re job ready when the busy Summer period starts and employers need extra workers.
Importantly, the Skills Fund – Seasonal Industries program will target our regional communities. Fifty-seven per cent of the applications are focused on the north west, west coast and north, 26 per cent in the south and south-east and 17 per cent in the east coast and midlands.
Around half of the training will take place in the food production/seasonal agriculture sector, about 35 per cent in hospitality and 17 per cent in tourism.
Twenty-one applications from Registered Training Organisations were successful and important, all Tasmanians RTOs which tendered received funding, which shows our Buy Local Policy is working and supporting Tasmanian businesses.
This funding demonstrates the Government’s commitment to supporting these vital industries and our regional communities.
We have a long-term Plan to grow the economy and create jobs and a key aspect of our plan is engaging with and investing in our Tasmanian workforce.
The Government is committed to helping businesses grow by cutting red tape and reducing regulatory burdens and at the same time ensuring Tasmanians have the best possible training and employment opportunities.
We are committed to supporting industries to grow and making sure they have the skilled workforce to do it.
