The Hodgman Liberal Government’s number one priority is jobs.

While there is still a lot of work to do, it’s clear that our long-term Plan is working with 1,000 new jobs being created in Launceston and the North of the State since the March 2014 election.

The unemployment rate in the North has dropped to 6.4 per cent, well below the State average, which is the lowest it’s been in more than three years.

We’re getting on with the job of growing the economy and creating more opportunities with our $315 million jobs package. The jobs package is specifically targeted to create jobs in the North, with massive investments in northern schools, major infrastructure upgrades like building a dual lane carriageway between Breadalbane and Perth and, of course, the Northern Cities Major Development Initiative.

The Northern Cities Major Development Initiative will help deliver one of the single biggest investments in Launceston’s history at the UTas northern campus. The proposed $200 million investment will create over 500 jobs.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is also building on, and investing in, our competitive advantages in the North, especially in areas like advanced manufacturing, forestry, agriculture and tourism.
