Shadow Tourism Minister Scott Bacon has congratulated the industry on the latest Tasmanian Visitor Survey results.

“Tourism and hospitality really are leading the way in Tasmania’s economy and these latest visitor numbers are welcomed,” Mr Bacon said.

“To see total visitation reach 1.15 million is something the industry should be very proud of.

“Visitor spending has risen to $1.89 billion, making a significant contribution to Tasmania’s economy.

“These great results are down to the hard work and creativity of everyone in the industry.

“The innovative marketing approach of the team at Tourism Tasmania must be recognised after a string of successful campaigns.

“The previous government’s decision to invest in events tourism, especially during the winter months, has also made a big difference.

“These results are an endorsement of Tasmania’s world class product but also of our people.

“We also welcome today’s announcement from QANTAS which will see additional flights and jobs in Tasmania.

“This is a vote of confidence in Tasmania and our tourism industry.”
