The Mercury

It’s a slight on the members of the commission to suggest that it merely does the Government’s bidding. It makes many decisions as an independent umpire and there is no suggestion from its history that it has acted inappropriately or outside its guidelines or has been politically influenced. It is arrant nonsense to suggest that because it is appointed by the Government it is therefore beholden to it.
