The Hodgman Liberal Government’s number one priority is jobs. That’s why we have initiated a range of job attraction initiatives, including the Business and Jobs Attraction Scheme.
The Business and Jobs Attraction Scheme, along with the Liberal Government’s other job attraction policies, give us the opportunity to market Tasmania to businesses that may have the potential to base themselves in Tasmania.
In addition to supporting Tasmanian businesses to grow the economy and create jobs, attracting businesses from elsewhere means more jobs for Tasmanians, and more economic activity in the state.
We have been in discussions with Western Australian-based company One Atmosphere about the potential to relocate its production and headquarters to Tasmania.
Initial job forecasts are for about 20 to 30 staff in the company’s initial phase, with discussions centring around a base at Techno Park at Goodwood.
We are poised to sign an Memorandum of Understanding with One Atmosphere to jointly explore the potential to relocate the company from West Australia to Tasmania.
We are exploring the potential for some Government assistance through Business and Jobs Attraction Scheme to help in the establishment of a new production facility in Tasmania
The company’s product is world class. If One Atmosphere decide to locate its production base in Tasmania it has the potential to further underpin the expansion of Tasmania’s specialised manufacturing capabilities in Defence.
We are determined to secure our fair share of the Commonwealth Government’s defence spend and we see the One Atmosphere opportunity as an important step forward in achieving our objective.
The relocation of One Atmosphere to Tasmania also has the potential to provide flow on benefits to other production companies in Tasmania.
