Today’s opening of the Risdon Vale Bike Park is another great example of the Hodgman Liberal Government working with the community to improve local facilities.

The bike park forms part of the Risdon Vale Bike Collective initiative which includes the Risdon Vale Bike Shed, upgrade of the BMX bike park and the construction of bush trails.

The Tasmanian Government contributed $149,000 towards this project with additional funding provided by the Clarence City Council and the Tasmanian Community Fund.

The project was also supported by a number of key partnerships including funding bodies, neighbourhood centres, the local primary school, various local charities and businesses, an extensive volunteer network, church groups and the local community.

The project is managed by Third Place Communities which has provided governance and support for youth programs over the past 10 years and has built long-term relationships with youth in Risdon Vale.

Congratulations to the local young people who were involved in the design and construction of the bike park which incorporates a series of dirt jumps and a pump track catering for a variety of ages and skill levels.

The project has helped to create a better future for local young people by increasing work readiness skills and recreational opportunities and by building a healthy community around the pursuit of push bikes.

The bike park is already providing a quality recreational space in Risdon Vale where young people can share their passion for riding, develop technical skills and become more physically active.

Towards the end of this year, more construction is planned to extend the network of trails in the bush which will build on the existing bike culture and vastly increase opportunities to ride locally.
