The national charity event, Dry July, has been launched in Tasmania for 2015.
I am honoured to have been asked once again to be a Dry July Ambassador and to help raise vital funds for Cancer Council Tasmania by going alcohol-free for the coming month.
All money raised in Tasmania will stay in the State to assist the Cancer Council to deliver vital support and services to cancer patients and their families.
Last year my sponsored sobriety raised more than $2,200, helping to fund the Cancer Council of Tasmania’s new Dry July transport2treatment van, which is stationed at Huonville for people requiring cancer treatment in Hobart.
When I was asked to take part in this fundraiser last year, I was inspired to do so because a dear friend of mine was fighting terminal brain cancer. Tragically, she has since lost her battle, which makes me even more motivated to go ‘dry’ again this July.
I encourage other Tasmanians to take part in Dry July and make this very small sacrifice, after all, you don’t often get the chance to raise money for not doing something!
2015 is the Cancer Council of Tasmania’s 20th anniversary, and in addition to being a Dry July Ambassador, I am also Chair of the Tuxedo Junction Charity Ball on 15 August at Wrest Point, to support the work of this outstanding not-for-profit and celebrate this significant milestone.
