Resources Minister Paul Harriss has lost control of the Resources portfolio and should resign.

“The forestry and mining industries are going down the gurgler on Mr Harriss’ watch,” Mr Green said.

“Mr Harriss is doing exactly what the Greens have been attempting to do for years, and that is to destroy Forestry Tasmania.

“We have seen 1500 jobs disappear from Tasmania’s mining industry and mineral exploration has crashed without so much as a whimper from Mr Harris.

“Now Mr Harriss’ agenda for Forestry Tasmania is unravelling before his eyes.

“We have the crazy situation where Mr Harriss’ hand-picked deputy chair of the forestry advisory council, Sue Smith, is calling for Forestry Tasmania to be shut-down and sold.

“It is inconceivable that Mrs Smith’s would make these comments without Mr Harriss’ knowledge.

“The revelations Forestry Tasmania’s now needs $10 million of taxpayers’ money to sack 100 of its workers shows just how low the industry has sunk since Mr Harriss’ became Minister.

“Mr Harriss has now gone to ground, he won’t front the media and refuses to accept responsibility for the mess our resource industries are in.”
