When Labor raise a health matter in Parliament they really should first check that they have their facts right.

Contrary to their incorrect assertions today, the Tasmanian health system retains access to the excellent skills and experience of neurosurgeon Mr Andrew Hunn. I am advised that Mr Hunn will continue to be engaged on a case-by-case basis when his particular skills and experience are required.

Mr Hunn’s contract concluded during this current financial year and he was offered employment with Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) with remuneration in accordance with the relevant industrial agreement and proper process. Mr Hunn declined this offer. However, that does not mean that Mr Hunn is not still available as a specialist when he is required.

We have a team of highly skilled neurosurgeons in the public health system and we will also continue to engage Mr Hunn for services which require his specific experience and expertise.
