The Minister for Planning and Local Government, Peter Gutwein, warmly welcomed the appointment of Dr Katrena Stephenson as CEO of the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT).
Mr Gutwein said Dr Stephenson is a skilled advocate for local government, as well as a strategic thinker and well respected by the local government community and beyond.
Dr Stephenson has played a pivotal role in establishing the close working relationship the State Government has with local government.
Dr Stephenson has vast experience and knowledge of local government matters throughout Tasmania and has been instrumental in driving a number of major policy initiatives on behalf of local government.
Dr Stephenson’s appointment comes at a crucial time with the State Government currently working through a process with local government around voluntary amalgamation and strategic resource sharing to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of local government for the benefit of rate payers.
