COALITION FREE VOTE URGENTLY NEEDED TO MEND RIFT ON MARRIAGE EQUALITY
Marriage equality advocates have strengthened their calls for a Free Vote for Coalition MPs, saying that it is now the only way to mend the deepening rift on the reform.
Deputy Director, Ivan Hinton-Teoh, said,
“The Coalition must grant a free vote to it’s members as a matter of urgency to avoid the deepening rift between those who oppose reform and the growing number of MPs and Senators who are coming out in support of marriage equality.”
“It is important that focus remains on the millions of Australians who are calling on the government to act and not on internal party politics.”
Coalition MPs, Zed Seselja, George Christensen, and Cory Bernardi have condemned colleagues who have publicly supported marriage equality, while more MPs are declaring their support for the reform.
