Labor Leader Bryan Green has welcomed the Premier’s tentative commitment to be part of a roundtable process to plan for a Tasmanian AFL team.

“The Premier’s response was half-hearted but he did indicate a willingness to be part of future discussions,” Mr Green said.

“It’s crucial we have a bipartisan approach when it comes to Tasmania striving for representation in the AFL.

“I completely reject Mr Hodgman’s suggestion that aspiring for our own team could somehow compromise negotiations with Hawthorn.

“I made it abundantly clear that the Government’s has Labor’s full support to negotiate a new five year deal with the Hawks.

“If the Premier is preparing the ground to blame someone else if the Hawthorn deal falls through, he is in fantasy land.

“The previous Government passionately pushed for Tasmania having its own team while successfully negotiating agreements to have matches played in Tasmania.”
