WHAT: Giant dancing tampons and a cheeky mobile billboard demanding the end of the “bloody unfair” tax on sanitary products will be unveiled by creator of the 95,000 signature strong ‘Stop Taxing my Period’ CommunityRun Petition, Subeta Vimalarajah.

WHEN: Thursday 28 May from 9:30am

WHERE: Parliament House Lawns, Parliament Drive Canberra

WHO/VISION: Subeta Vimalarajah will be flanked by giant dancing tampons as a mobile billboard circles Parliament House in the background calling on Prime Minister and Minister for Women Tony Abbott to end the “bloody unfair” tax.

“Having your period is far from a picnic, yet it’s still considered a luxury by our Minister for Women,” said Subeta.

“It’s great to hear Treasurer Joe Hockey say the tampon tax is wrong and set a date to talk to state treasurers about it, but actions are going to speak louder than words for the millions of Australians paying tax each month.”

“More than 95,000 Australians have signed on to the petition already because they know that a person’s period isn’t a paycheck, it’s a pain.”

The billboard launch will be celebrated with a community picnic complete with ‘period friendly’ snacks like chocolate, biscuits and sweets.
