Labor Leader Bryan Green today accused Premier Will Hodgman of rank hypocrisy over a planned crackdown on four wheel drive vehicles using tracks in the Arthur Pieman region.
“Before the election both Will Hodgman and Adam Brooks gave people the impression it would be open slather in the Arthur Pieman for off-road enthusiasts,” Mr Green said.
“The Liberals promised to open up recreational tracks and said that nothing would stand in their way.
“The great irony now is that the Liberal Government is condemning people for using closed tracks in the Arthur Pieman.
“Adam Brooks gave a guarantee to off road and recreational users that the tracks would be open by last Christmas. That still hasn’t happened and now Mr Brooks has gone into hiding.
“Mr Brooks was particularly vocal, telling everyone he would open up the tracks and that nothing would stop him be there protests or court action.
“Where has all Mr Brooks’ political bravado gone and how is he going to weasel his way out of this one?
“Mr Hodgman is now saying he wants environmental and heritage values protected. What a hypocrite.
“It’s a dramatic turnaround by the Liberals and shows they deliberately deceived voters at the last election. It is another broken election promise.
“It has not been open slather on tracks in the Arthur Pieman region under successive Labor or Liberal governments and it’s about time Mr Hodgman and Mr Brooks owned up to the fact they misled voters.
