Labor Leader Bryan Green today condemned Resources Minister Paul Harris for washing his hands of workers being sacked by Forestry Tasmania.

“Paul Harriss arrogantly says he’s not sorry for sacking Forestry Tasmania workers,” Mr Green says.

“Mr Harriss owes these workers an apology because in the lead up to the election he promised them their jobs would be safe under a Liberal Government.

“Instead, more than 35 workers have already been given marching orders this week.

“People working in the forest industry have been abandoned by Mr Harriss.

“Mr Harris said the industry would expand and Forestry Tasmania would trade its way out of financial trouble.

“It is now plain for all to see that the Liberals deliberately misled people and are now trying to absolve themselves of all responsibility.

“The nauseating rhetoric of Mr Harriss is wearing thin. At least Labor had the courage to face up to the challenges confronting forestry and supported the industry to the hilt.

“Mr Harris needs to front up to these workers, look them in the eye and apologise.”
