The Liberal Government is clearly turning its back on Child and Family Centres across Tasmania.

Shadow Education Minister Michelle O’Byrne expressed disappointment that the Liberals had rejected Labor’s policy to build two new Child and Family Centres in areas of greatest need across Tasmania.

“The Liberal Government has been very quick to dismiss Labor’s promise to build two new Child and Family Centres,” Ms O’Byrne said.

“The Liberals have clearly not spoken to parents, educators and communities about the importance of Child and Family Centres when it comes to early learning and childhood development.

“You can take from the Government’s reaction to our positive policy announcement that it has no intention of adding to the 11 centres across Tasmania.

“It is short-sighted in the extreme for the Liberals to turn their backs on these transformative centres, simply because they didn’t think of the policy themselves.

“In contrast, Labor will identify two communities that would most benefit from a new centre and build them in the next term of government.

“The policy is just one part of Labor’s ‘Life of Learning’ initiative which will be further detailed in response to the State Budget.”
