… FROM ALLOWING MARRIAGE EQUALITY FREE VOTE
Marriage equality advocates say the British Conservatives’ likely electoral win shows the Australian Government has nothing to fear from allowing a free vote on the issue.
Australian Marriage equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,
“The British Conservatives are set to regain office after the Party had a free vote on marriage equality.”
“This shows the Australian Liberal and National parties have nothing to fear from doing the same.”
Conservative leader, David Cameron, a supporter of marriage equality, allowed his MPs a free vote on the issue, as did the New Zealand National Party leader, John Key.
The New Zealand National Party Government was returned to office in 2014 after allowing a free vote on marriage equality in 2013.
Before the last election Tony Abbott said the Coalition party room would be free to debate the issue of a free vote. That has yet to occur.
