The split between Federal Liberal Member for Braddon, Brett Whiteley, and his state colleagues is widening.

By withdrawing his support for the Geelong Star, Mr Whiteley has further exposed Will Hodgman’s broken promises on super trawlers.

“Brett Whiteley is basically saying the Liberal Government has got it wrong on the Geelong Star,” Labor Leader Bryan Green said.

“Will Hodgman was caught out misleading Tasmanians over his position on super trawlers, now his own Liberal colleagues are abandoning him.

“The community has every right to feel let down on this issue.

“Public concerns about impacts on the small pelagic fishery and the deaths of marine mammals have not changed, despite the Liberals being tricky about the size of the boat.”

The split follows Mr Whitely publicly expressing his concerns about the impact of the Liberal Government’s health reforms on North West Tasmania.

“Clearly Mr Whiteley is desperate to keep his seat and he is not afraid to sell out his state colleagues in the process.”
