The Liberal Government cannot hide from today’s very concerning unemployment figures.
2000 jobs have disappeared since December with Tasmania’s unemployment rate increasing sharply to 6.9%, the worst result in the country.
Labor Leader Bryan Green said it’s time for the Liberals’ gloating to end.
“These employment figures are deeply concerning and show the Liberal Government’s approach to jobs growth is failing,” Mr Green said.
“Peter Gutwein has been bragging about deep cuts to the public sector.
“Now he’s faced with the overall employment picture in Tasmania and it’s not pretty.
“The Liberals’ one line slogans have only led to reviews, inquiries and indecision – not jobs.
“Resources Minister Paul Harriss gloated in today’s paper about a “remarkable turnaround in Tasmania’s economy” and “the dole queues shrinking”
“He must be living on a different planet to the rest of us.
“Today’s employment figures should serve as a giant wake-up call to an arrogant government that is only interested in patting itself on the back.”
