TASMANIA’S drug problem must have reached epic proportions.
Adding new layers meaning to the Hobart Tip motto, “Don’t Waste Hobart”, the sign near the entrance to McRobies Gully offers to take your stash of illicit drugs off your hands for $48.90 a cubic metre.
This is a hell of a deal compared with the going rate in the rest of the country.
Imagine what a cubic metre of coke or ganja might fetch on the mainland? Is this an export initiative? Are these illicit drugs being recycled through the tip shop or the garden centre?
I haven’t been offered anything in recent visits, but it’s probably an under-the-counter operation. “I’ll take that old exercise bike, the electric frypan with the orangey-brown lid and a couple suitcases…and while you’re at it fill ’em up.” Nudge, Nudge, wink wink …
As the Hobart City Council website says, “Hobart — the way life should be”.
