Labor Leader Bryan Green today accused Braddon Liberal Adam Brooks of going to ground over his promise to open up recreational tracks in the Arthur Pieman region.
“Before the last election Adam Brooks was telling everyone he would open up tracks in the Arthur Pieman.
“Mr Brooks deliberately gave people the impression that full access would be provided to the region for off-road and recreational vehicle users.
“Mr Brooks said nothing would stand in his way whether there were protests or court action. Nothing was going to stop him.
“Mr Brooks promised to open the tracks by Christmas but that still hasn’t happened.
“The great irony now is that the Liberal Government is condemning people for using closed tracks in the Arthur Pieman.
“Does Mr Brooks and Joan Rylah agree with the Environment Minister Matthew Groom that people using these tracks is “totally unacceptable”? (Advocate April10).
“What is unacceptable is Mr Groom’s sacking of Parks and Wildlife staff who are responsible for managing areas like the Arthur Pieman.
“Mr Brooks had plenty to say before the election about opening up tracks but the reality is he hasn’t delivered.
“No amount of weasel words or political spin from Mr Brooks can hide the fact that he deliberately mislead voters.
“Mr Brooks was trying to give people the impression it would be open slather in the Arthur Pieman region when that hasn’t been the case under successive Labor or Liberal governments.”
