A serious breakdown has been exposed between the Minister for State Growth and the Minister for Infrastructure over the Triabunna Wharf.

Yesterday the Minister for Infrastructure, Rene Hidding, was asked to explain whether his backflip over refusing to sell the Triabunna Wharf was prompted by a meeting between the proponent of the Spring Bay Mill and the Coordinator General.

Mr Hidding claimed he “was not aware of any meetings on the Triabunna mill with anyone.”

Today the Minister for State Growth, Matthew Groom, confirmed the meeting did in fact take place.

“Either Mr Hidding has misled the Parliament or he has been kept in the dark about a matter directly relating to his portfolio responsibility,” Labor Leader Bryan Green said.

“Either way it points to serious dysfunction within the mega-department of State Growth.

“The Liberal Government has undermined confidence in the tourism industry with its constantly changing position on the sale of the wharf and compulsory acquisition of the Triabunna Mill site.”
