TUESDAY’S Mercury had an article Tourism chiefs attack service criticising Tasmania’s delivery to tourists.
Tourism Tasmania’s new chairman Bob Annells criticised the service from tourist providers. He said he had the ‘breakfast experience form hell’ in Hobart.
Well Bob, you can put me on the board of Tourism Tasmania. I’d love to contribute to achieving top tourism outcomes.
I’ve been a tourist in Tas since 1973, when the old pub I stayed in in Hobart had Campbells pottery on the sideboard. Now they’d have to hide it because it’s so valuable.
My latest tour of Tas was for 2 weeks in March, starting in Devonport the Friday before the Long Weekend.
I have to say that I had a consistently fantastic response from the people running the caravan parks and self catering accomodation I stayed at.
I can’t say I had the ‘breakfast from heaven’ because I made my own. But the people I spoke to in organising my accommodation were consistently helpful.
I happened to light on a very difficult time to find a place to stay near Deloraine as it was the long weekend and the National Rowing Championships at a lake nearby, and the Ulysses Club of old bikies were having a meeting at Burnie. I had an NRMA accommodation guide and the people I rang went out of their way to ring around their friends to find me somewhere to stay.
They were to a woman polite and friendly and helpful.
The same on the east coast at Swansea and back at Launceston before driving to Devenport to return on the Spirit.
I didn’t have a bad expereince with anyone.
The tiny 1840s terrace I stayed in at Launceston was wonderful in its scale and authenticity.
