Two Tasmanian companies have been awarded contracts worth a total of $6.5 million to construct the huts on the Three Capes Track.
This is yet another example of Tasmanian businesses successfully tendering for Government contracts.
The Three Capes Track will be Australia’s premier coastal bushwalking experience and even ahead of completion, is receiving accolades such as Lonely Planet naming it among the ‘world’s hottest new experiences’ earlier this year.
As a result of a recent tender process, AJR Construct Pty Ltd of Devonport has been awarded a contract to construct the hut and associated buildings at Lunchtime Creek.
Vos Construction and Joinery Pty Ltd has been awarded a contract to construct the huts and associated buildings at Surveyors Cove and at Retakunna Creek.
Each hut will accommodate up to 48 walkers and there will be separate buildings for sleeping, preparing food and social activities, a ranger’s hut and toilets.
Both contractors will use Tasmanian fire resistant timbers in construction of the huts.
Preparations for hut construction are under way, with completion expected in October 2015 ahead of the planned November 2015 opening.
