The Government’s number one priority is jobs. While there is still a lot of work to do, today’s ABS data shows that the Government is heading in the right direction.
The number of people with a job is stable and has returned to pre-GFC levels.
Since the last election, the unemployment rate has dropped by one per cent, the participation rate has increased by 0.7 per cent and the gap between the national unemployment rate and the Tasmanian rate has reduced from 1.6 per cent to just 0.2 per cent.
This is the latest indicator to show that there is an economic recovery underway in Tasmania. We are seeing record results in retail spending, our tourism industry is booming and business confidence is the highest in the nation.
Our long-term Plan is all about creating jobs and growing the economy and today’s results show we are heading in the right direction.
Peter Gutwein, Treasurer
