The Tasmanian Government is pleased to play a significant role in the transformation of the old South Hobart Primary School site into an innovative Community Hub.
The Tasmanian Government is providing a grant towards the project and stamp duty relief, amounting to approximately $656,000 in total.
The cooperation of the three tiers of Government in conjunction with the local community has helped to deliver this positive outcome and I am personally very excited to see this project’s progression, having advocated strongly for it on behalf of the South Hobart Progress Association and other stakeholders.
The historic property, which dates back to 1895, was a school until 1964 and for the next 40 years predominantly served as an Adult Education facility.
Its restoration into an innovative arts and cultural centre will provide an affordable space for artists, groups and organisations and serve as place for locals to meet, make new connections and undertake activities.
The conversion will provide a boost for the construction industry and will help support local small businesses.
I have no doubt the hub will be a welcome addition to the South Hobart area for current residents, the broader community and future generations.
