New volunteers join the team to help out in the community!
Great weather added to the success of the Volunteer Recruitment and Open Day which was held at Mersey Community Care, on Friday the 6th of March. The event was well attended by members of the community, interested in volunteering their time to assist others in the community.
Senator Anne Urquhart and Ald Alison Jarman, were both in attendance and enjoyed the opportunity to talk to many of the Mersey Community Care volunteers, who were helping out with activities throughout the day.
Senator Urquhart said “Gaining a greater understanding of the role the organisation plays in our community was extremely interesting to me, the icing on the cake was of course meeting many of the fantastic volunteers who assist those in our community that would otherwise struggle with day to day activities, whether it be medical or social appointments or the many other initiatives Mersey Community Care is involved in. I will definitely be up to put my order in for a ‘raised garden bed’ – they are fantastic.”
Ald Alison Jarman was so impressed by services provided by the organisation, she is going to volunteer her time and join the dynamic team of volunteers at MCCA.
Ald Jarman said “I was warmly welcomed and introduced to many staff and volunteers and taken on a tour of the facility to gain a valuable insight to the work being done in the region by this wonderful organisation. I was always aware of the MCCA however; I was certainly enlightened to the amount and type of work the volunteers provide. Not only do they increase and support independence for the frail, aged or disabled, they also assist with extra services including transport, basic home maintenance, gardening, cleaning and social support.”
Ald Jarman went on to say, “The facility has been well utilised and is well overdue for renovations. I can see only an increase in the need for such services, provided by this well run operation in the future. I will certainly be an advocate for MCCA in seeking local council support for this invaluable service to the Devonport community and surrounds.”
