In honour of the inaugural Hobart Water chairman, Steve Balcombe, TasWater has continued to offer the ‘Steve Balcombe Scholarship’ each year.

Mae Farrell from Scottsdale is the winner of the scholarship for 2015.

Mae is studying a Batchelor of Applied Science, majoring in Environmental Science.

Mr Balcombe was an engineering graduate of the University of Tasmania and a pioneer in the Tasmanian water industry. He had a distinguished career in both the public and private sectors in Tasmania before his premature death in March 2001.

The scholarship also allows recipients to gain insight and experience in the water industry and participate in real projects with real outcomes to improve the delivery and quality of water, protect of the environment and to improve the essential services we all take for granted. Past recipients have worked on important projects within TasWater and several have progressed to successful careers within the water industry.
