Shadow Tourism Minister Scott Bacon today called for urgent action by Infrastructure Minister Rene Hidding to resolve Bruny Island’s access issues.

“Rene Hidding’s decision to stop operating Bruny’s second ferry during a bumper tourism season beggars belief,” Mr Bacon said.

“This situation is costing our tourism operators dearly and damaging Bruny’s growing reputation as an accessible and unique island experience.

“Mr Hidding’s extraordinary description of Bruny’s increasing visitor numbers as ‘unusual’ shows just how out of touch Mr Hidding is with our tourism industry.

“The introduction of the MV Bowen in December has reduced queues for visitors to the Island as well as residents and the service should be extended

“Transport infrastructure for the island is Mr Hidding’s responsibility and he should recommence this vital service immediately.”
