The Battery Point and Sullivans Cove Community Association is seeking new members.

A membership book has been left at the Battery Point Post Office in Hampden Rd, and for $5, you can sign up for a year.

In a document signed by BPSCCA president David Edwards on January 21, the assocation then had “at least 30 financial members.” It’s not many for a suburb so often in the news.

As someone who resigned from the association during the Hobart City Council election last year, in protest against the majority, but not unanimous view of the committee over a number of issues, I have signed up again and urge others with a genuine interest in the suburb to do the same.

All residents of Battery Point, be they home owners or renters, can join, as can anyone with a business in the suburb, who works in the suburb or who has an interest in the area.

Further, a poster at the Battery Point Post Office says the association is hosting a social evening for members and Battery Point residents in the Battery Point Community Hall, on the corner of Hampden Rd and Francis St, on Friday (March 17) at 6pm.

Refreshments and drinks will be provided, with members asked “to bring a plate” to assist with catering. So this is a good opportunity to sign up and/or turn up.
