The Fabian Society is a major left wing think tank, active in Australia since 1947. Founded in the UK in 1884, Fabians have been at the forefront of research into political ideas and public policy reform. Famous Fabians throughout history include Gough Whitlam, Don Dunstan, George Bernard Shaw and H.G. Wells. The society continues to be a major left voice influencing policy and government.
