Tasmanian tourism operators are preparing to make the most of every opportunity ahead of the Chinese President’s visit to Tasmania next week.
Tasmania’s top regional tourism attraction the Port Arthur Historic Site has launched a Chinese language website in hope of building on a record number of Chinese visitors.
The image-rich website offers information about the historic site, its tours and activities, and allows online bookings too.
This new website will no doubt build on an increasing number of Chinese visitors to the site, which quadrupled to 16,000 in the year to June.
The historic site has been a leader in its approach to the Chinese market, offering quality interpretation materials and signage, and the development of a Mandarin language audio tour.
This summer it also plans to employ Mandarin speaking guides who can share the story of Australia’s most complete and best preserved convict heritage site.
Tasmania is proving a must-see for Chinese visitors, with a record 20,400 Chinese tourists visiting our island in the 12 months to June.
Next week’s presidential visit will shine the spotlight of the world and especially China on our state, which will herald unprecedented attention and opportunities.
This will without doubt help us to reach our target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to Tasmania every year by 2020.
