The Liberal Government is a strong supporter of arts and cultural organisations in Tasmania.
Recipients of the 2015 Arts Tasmania Small Museums and Collections program have been announced today.
The Small Museums and Collections program provides grants and advice to assist the curatorial and collection management practices of smaller public and community collections and museums in Tasmania.
The program combines financial support with an allocation of time with a professional Roving Curator.
Grants totalling $38,500 in funding and 109 days of Roving Curator time have been awarded to museums across the state.
Most of the collections receiving support from this program are run by volunteers, which makes the expertise of Arts Tasmania’s two professional curators invaluable.
The Roving Curators offer assistance on a range of project types including collection management, preventative conservation, research, archiving and presentation practices.
Wilmot Museum is one museum that has benefited in recent years from Roving Curators working with them to help manage and display their collection.
In the 2015 program they have received a grant of $2,070 towards graphic design and printing of new interpretation signage, as well as five days of Roving Curator time to assist with further development of the interpretation content.
The grants and Roving Curator time received through the Small Museums and Collections program benefits the whole community by providing a greater understanding of the state’s heritage and history for both locals and tourists.
