Sue Hickey pursues Myer directors to confirm or deny development plans ... 4

Alderman Sue Hickey (candidate to be HCC Lord Mayor) will be moving an urgent motion to the next Council meeting that correspondence received from Myer be released to the public unless Myer CEO and board member, Bernie Brooks, publicly and personally declares that the Company is still committed to the “state of the art” store in the Hobart Kalis development.

“I am not satisfied with a response from a Myer “spoke-woman” that the company maintains the same position to rebuild the store that had been contractually agreed on. This is a $100M + development and a reassurance from no less than the CEO of Myer is requested.” says Miss Hickey.

Myer recently closed four Regional stores and has considered not proceeding with other developments.

Several meetings were held with Council representatives and representatives of the State Government around August this year, creating great angst as to the project’s future.

“This is not “white noise”. The Council is in receipt of correspondence that must be released to the public because a decision of the previous Council (in 2010) could see the City committing significant sums to keep Myer in our Capital City.

“However, if Myer do not proceed as promised, no money will be expended.

“I would love to see a bright new shiny Myer in our City, despite my reservations at the cost.

“It is time the Company Senior Representatives address the situation and declare their true position,” Sue says.
