The Hag faithfully passes on this rather intense rumour:
“Liberal Hobart City Alderman Sue Hickey will announce today she will stand for the Senate at the next Federal election.
The recently elected Hobart Alderman Hickey, a successful businesswoman and former Miss Tasmania had withdrawn from the last State election during rows with now sitting Liberal MP Elise Archer.
It is believed Ms Hickey has some support within the Liberal Party; most likely, notably, husband of Ms Archer, former State Liberal President Dale Archer.
There is rumoured to be (another) vitriolic and sometimes vicious war of words.
Ms Hickey’s nomination comes as a number of prominent Liberal woman try to replace the (political sources say, under-performing Senator David Bushby) in the safe number two position. They are said to include Sally Chandler from the TCCI, Kirstin Finnegan from the Launceston Chamber of Commerce and former Guy Barnett staffer and Jane Howlett a Distribution Manager and former candidate.
The political sources say Senator Bushby (who is best known for meowing at Penny Wong) could lose his position as an effort is made to see more women represent the Liberal Party.
The Hag (and TT) welcomes affirmation or denial …

Media Statement
Wednesday 2 May
Today I have been made aware of an email sent to media organisations from an anonymous source containing spurious allegations.
I’m not in the habit of responding to emails from nameless sources.
What I will say is that I welcome the opportunity to stand on my record as a hardworking Senator for Tasmania, both before the Liberal Party selection committee and the people of Tasmania at the next election.
