Mike Andrews is the UK’s number one Robbie Williams tribute act but to just to give that extra credence Andrews has been endorsed by the man himself,
with Robbie Williams saying “I don’t know where he starts, and I end.”
Andrews has joined Robbie’s dad, Pete Conway in a song, honouring Robbie’s fortieth birthday.
I was able to speak to Andrews about his first performance of the Better Man Australian Tour in Australia and his resemblance to the english singer is uncanny.
It’s all there, he looks like Williams, he of course sounds like Williams, and he has cultivated William’s mannerisms and stance.
As Andrews says of the similarities “Striking resemblance, identical swagger and even matching tattoos.”
“My performance is being considerate of the crowd, whether they are diehard fans or just a general audience, out to experience some ‘Williams’ music,” said Andrews.
Andrews says his wife is a big fan of Williams but that is where the similarity ends with Andrews.
“William’s music is not my cup of tea he does however I do have much respect for Williams, the man,” said Andrews. “Williams is fun, is a nice guy, and is not big headed.”
In an interesting piece of trivia, Andrew’s wife, also a singer will take on the Kylie Minogue role in his rendition of ‘Kids’ another piece of trivia is that Andrew’s Mother-in-Law was a ‘Williams’.
The hits canvassed in the two-hour show will include Let Me Entertain You and Rock DJ, to emotional favourites like Angels, Feel and Better Man. A special appearance of Mr Bojangles is a nod to Williams swing tribute.
The performance is in two parts and Andrews will appear in lookalike costumes and will “Combine charisma, cheek, and top-tier production in a show that’s as close as it gets to the real thing.” he said.
Andrews is aware that Australia over the years has come to count Williams as one of their own and that the feeling is mutual. For himself it is his first trip to Australia, most of his work has been in the UK and Europe.
“I am not a big fan of flying, especially landing and turbulence, and I do have some trepidation of Australia’s snakes and spider population,” he told me.
As to a more friendly population Andrews does have a cousin in Brisbane and a friend in Tasmania who unfortunately will be in Europe at the time of Andrews visit to Tasmania. As to Tasmania, Andrews says he always thought it was ‘a cool name’.
