People Need to Know Scale of Development

The Tasmanian Greens today called on developers Sultan Holdings to be open and transparent about proposed plans for The Springs on Mt Wellington so the community can make informed decisions about the merits of the proposal.
Greens Member for Denison and Environment spokesperson Cassy O’Connor MP said Mt Wellington is a treasured asset and the community rightfully feels that it should have a say about any development on the Mountain.
“Once the developer puts forward more detailed plans, including an accurate artists’ impression of the scale of the proposed development, we will all have a better idea about the merits, or not, of the proposal,” said Ms O’Connor.
“If the plans fit within the requirements of the Wellington Park Management Trust and if they garner community support then the proposal should go through a proper assessment process to examine its social, environmental and economic implications.”
“It is hard to understand why the developer is being so coy about releasing a visual representation of their proposal.”
“The history of successful developments in Tasmania shows that the more open and transparent the process, the more likely that it will be approved if it meets the planning criteria.”
“It is important to remember that Mt Wellington belongs to the people of Tasmania and that they are they most important stakeholders,” said Ms O’Connor.
