nipaluna/Hobart’s youth dance company Drill premiere their new work Age
nipaluna/Hobart’s youth dance company Drill, are premiering their new contemporary performance work, Age at the Theatre Royal, and two of the performances will be audio described and Auslan interpreted on Saturday 19th August at 2pm and 7pm.
Age is fresh, raw and honest, tackling the preconceived ideas of what it truly means to be defined, measured and respected by the length of time you’ve spent on this planet.
What does age mean to young people? How does it define them? Is it just a number?
This new work assembles twenty three of our junior and senior company members to create rich stories and observations on contemporary life. We’ve been working with collaborators Elle Evangelista from Gadigal country/Sydney and Tasmanian/Japanese artist Risa Muramatsu Ray on this project, injecting their creative ingenuity into the studio alongside local sound designer, Jonathan Dieckfoss and renowned Tasmanian lighting designer, Chris Jackson.
“This work aims to question these inbuilt narratives around age and ageing, and illuminates what it means to be a young person right now. It stretches our perspective on our purpose in this lifetime, explores the weight that young people carry in securing a future on this planet and beckons the viewer to look inwards and reflect on their own ‘time’ in the world’. “
– Newly appointed Artistic Director of Drill, Bec Dundas
