Thirteen Tasmanians have received the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2023 June Honours, announced on the occasion of the public holiday for the Royal Parasite’s Birthday. 22 others have been honoured with a Medal of the Order (OAM).
Premier Jeremy Rockliff congratulated the Tasmanian recipients and thanked them for their service to the state.
“This is one of the highest acknowledgments of community service an Australian citizen can receive, and all the Tasmanian recipients should be proud at this appropriate recognition of their service to our community,” the Premier said.
Recipients of the Member of the Order (AM):
- Roger Blake for significant service to sport as a competitor, administrator and statistician;
- Lindsay Bourke for significant service to the beekeeping and honey industry, and to the community;
- Rosalind Escott for significant service to women’s health, and to the community;
- Victoria Grillo for significant service to conservation through education, research and leadership roles;
- Graham Hall for significant service to dentistry as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon;
- Roger Hodgman for significant service to the performing arts as a director;
- Hedley Hoskinson for significant service to the beekeeping and honey industry;
- Judith Jackson for significant service to the people and Parliament of Tasmania;
- Associate Professor Gary Kilov for significant service to medicine, particularly diabetes research and advisory roles;
- Noel Pearce for significant service to cycling, and to community sport through a range of roles;
- Pamela Rabe for significant service to the performing arts as a performer and director;
- Emeritus Professor Phil Waite for significant service to medical science, and to tertiary education; and
- Amanda Wojtowicz for significant service to performing arts administration, and to tertiary education.
Josef Chromy OAM has also been awarded an Office of the Order (AO) for distinguished service to the community through tourism, particularly the wine and food sector, to property development and charitable contributions.
Gaye Lalor has been awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) for outstanding public service in visa program delivery and the COVID-19 travel exemption program.
Commander Peter Harriss has been awarded an Australian Police Medal (APM), while Colin George and Lucy Oatley have been awarded an Ambulance Service Medal (ASM).
Colonel Michael Lowe has received a Commendation for Distinguished Service (CDS) for distinguished performance of duties in warlike operations as the Director of Future Operations for Operation INHERENT RESOLVE, on Operation OKRA, from July 2021 to May 2022.
A further 22 Tasmanians have been awarded a Medal of the Order (OAM) in appreciation of their contributions to their local communities:

- Kerry Finch for service to the Parliament of Tasmania, and to the community

- Sharon Leonard for service to the community of Ravenswood
- Jennifer Logie for service to the community of Bicheno
- Michael Mazengarb for service to the community through a range of organisations
- Frank Meumann for service to medicine
- Wendy Page for service to journalism
- Susan Reppion-Brooke for service to music education
- Jean Stafford for service to the performing arts
