Welcome to the climate of the middle Miocene 4

The University of Oxford, the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and the UK Meteorological Office Hadley Centre held a conference to discuss what is now emerging as a distinct possibility if we fail to act globally to limit further climate instability, a 4dC temperature rise this century.

If we move into that scenario what will the climates day to day weather be like?

Storm intensity is predicted to rise so we can expect more events like last week Philippines flooding to occur.

The Weather Bureau predicts this summer to be hotter and drier in Victoria leading up to 31December. Why would a drying and heating mid latitude jurisdictions [the mainland states] not have increased bushfires.

Why would that not also effect the east coast of Tasmania, already in a rain shadow?.

And with water treated as a political plaything why won’t an ETS suffer dangerous delays like water reform has.

The Coalition tears itself apart over amending an emissions trading scheme or even whether to have one at all.

Here is a party that will, until it recognizes the problem of climate instability and outlines a set of cogent steps to address it, will become increasingly irrelevant.

Once the cause and effect become clear that deniers are a rare breed indeed how will the social dislocation be managed as populations seek a safety that has become illusory.

Why will the ice stop melting in a greenhouse world?. The more that melts the faster it will go as its mass and albedo effect decline. Sea level will rise further.

These are all indicators of the future if we do not seriously address limiting climate instability, environmental damage, economic loss and social dislocation.

And its official, the last time we had a greenhouse world with carbon at these levels there was no society or economy to dislocate but nor was there an artic ice cap and it was between 2.4 and 4.8dC warmer.
