Events to unlock sustainability momentum in Tasmania
Sustainability is the topic of two special events coming up in Launceston from Tamar NRM in July and August. Events that aim to start conversations and inspire practical actions.
The first is the Tamar Valley Leaders Lunch in July which will consider whether Tasmania is ready to align with global sustainable development goals. Using the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals global framework to ground the event, it will explore the 17 goals which go well beyond the environment to also consider health, education, equality, the economy and more.
Community members, businesses and government are invited to hear the address from Adam Mostogl, CEO and Chief Entrepreneur of The van Diemen Project, about the opportunity or imperative that Tasmania has to align with global frameworks – especially in light of our perceptions of being clean and green.
The second event in August is designed for small businesses to receive practical advice on adopting and measuring sustainability goals at the Sustainable Business Forum: Building Strong & Sustainable Local Businesses.
Attendees of the forum will hear from guest speaker and sustainable business consultant, Bonnie Tuttle, alongside 2021 Tasmanian Sustainable Business Award winner Aspen Hair and finalists, Brady’s Lookout Cider, Daisy Fresh Dry Cleaners, Earth Coterie, Ramble Folk, EcoPellets and City of Launceston’s Team leader Sustainability, Michael Attard.
Many organisations hope for a better world but devising a specific plan to make measurable improvements over time isn’t always easy. It is hoped that these events will unlock some momentum within Tasmania by encouraging us to focus on the goals that we can have the greatest impact on and start planning to achieve them.
The Tamar Valley Leaders Lunch is on Wednesday, July 20th 2022 at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston and the Sustainable Business Forum: Building Strong & Sustainable Local Businesses is on Wednesday, August 3rd 2022. Please visit www.tamarnrm.com.au for more information and tickets.
